The Internet is an essential element of 21st century life for education, business and social interaction. The school has a duty to provide pupils with quality internet access as part of their learning experience. Internet use is a part of the statutory curriculum and a necessary tool for staff and pupils. It is also our duty to ensure the children access the Internet safely and to provide children with information on how to use the Internet safely.
There are many sites available which highlight the dangers of using the Internet which you may want to visit with your children, such as:
Cyber-Bullying
This is bullying which makes use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person and occurs mostly among young people. When an adult is involved, it may meet the definition of cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking, a crime that can have legal consequences and involve jail time.
Our school uses filtering and monitoring systems to protect students from harmful online content and inappropriate material, as required by statutory guidance.
All activity on school devices and the school network is subject to monitoring to ensure safety.
While filtering blocks many risks, no system is foolproof. Monitoring helps us respond to concerning activity.
Data from monitoring is used for safeguarding and kept for 12 months.
For full details, see our Data Protection Policy.
